Matresence Coaching

Are you a busy, overwhelmed and ambitious mom ready for more headspace and me-time that feels guilt free?

Does this resonate with you?

  • Maybe you put having kids on hold while you focused on your career…

  • You are a mother within your first five years postpartum. You are now feeling the intensity of your transformation.

  • Becoming a mother has challenged you, forced you to sacrifice your “me time” and that feels like a huge loss to you

  • You thought that once you became a mother, you could somehow maintain the life you created for yourself and still have balance

  • You crave “me time” but feel so guilty if you take it.

Matrescence Coaching sessions are:

  • Conversational, practical and proactive (you’ll gain tools, insight and strategy…you must be READY for the change you crave)

  • Focused on topics such as identity, burnout, REAL self-care (boundaries, values, needs etc.)

  • Intended to leave you feeling uplifted, courageous, hopeful, validated and supported

  • Limited to 6 sessions per person as they are intended for top-level, solution-focused support. You are READY to make the changes necessary to help you find your confidence and freedom once again.

What to expect from a matrescence coaching session with Chelsea:

  • You will begin by describing WHY you wanted coaching: Why now? What’s the challenge you are seeking support with? The remainder of your session is spent providing pyschoeducation (on matrescence, modern motherhood, maternal theory etc. all supported through the lens of pyschology) with the direction of professional insight.

  • Each session will end with a summary of your personal and unique plan of action (this is what you work on outside of session, ie. homework, behavior change etc.)
Specific recommendations will be made on how/where to seek ongoing support if necessary.  Chelsea has a full network of providers she highly recommends to refer to as needed.

Additional benefits:

  • Session recording if requested on Zoom

  • Follow up email with session debrief along with action points and  additional recommendations

  • Your whole life long, Mama. Once you become a Mama...you are in it. You are always evolving as a mama. Each new milestone your child hits, means a new stage in your own mothering journey too. Even when your children go off to college, you are still in your matrescence as your role, identity and feelings about mothering change once again! And...with each new pregnancy, you experience a whole new version of matrescence again. And it might look and feel very different than the last time. You are always becoming "Mama".

  • First coined in 1973 by Dana Raphael, a medical anthropologist, it describes the complexities involved in the transition from woman to mother. However, the term has since been revitalized by Dr. Aurelie Athan at Columbia University who has further described matrescence as a similar life stage to that of adolescence. PS...I am SO fortunate to be mentored by Dr. Athan myself! :)

  • Therapy or coaching can feel like an immense investment. I get it. You’ve got bills, childcare and a budget. But you matter. And when you are supported and cared for, your whole family is too. You are worth it.

AND...we’re pretty good at what we do. (Not to toot our own horn, but it’s true. You can ask our clients.) We’re well trained, we’ve got personal experience (we’re moms too) and we are doing our life’s purpose (which is gold!). You get what you pay for with us.

  • Yep. Totally. When you invest in yourself with either therapy or coaching, we invest in you too.

We’re not available 24/7, but most hours of the day, we’re around (if not with another client or spending quality time with those we love). We try to practice what we preach in terms of self care too!

  • If you can’t attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand and we can reschedule your appointment. Otherwise, you will be charged for the full rate of the session.

FAQ’s

  • Because you matter, Mama. Birth is not just about the baby. It is about your birth as a Mama, too. We live in such a child-centered culture, that the mother is often an after thought, let alone a priority. She often feels alone, lost and confused in her transition from woman to mother and without a deeper understanding of this concept, she might feel as if she is failing in her motherhood experience. This one word has the power to increase her confidence that she is normal in her journey almost immediately.

  • We accept all major credit cards as forms of payment. We also accept payment directly on our website, so you can book now to secure your next session. You will be billed immediately following your session.

  • No, we are strictly out of pocket. Yet, if you would like to use insurance, you may seek out-of-network benefits for our sessions together. Out-of-network benefits are usually quite easy to navigate. You will receive a super bill automated through our HIPPA compliant platform, Simple Practice and you can submit it to your insurance. Please call your insurance before we begin to determine any next steps or answer any questions you might have.

  • Did you know that how you vibe/fit with your therapist/coach is the most important factor in the success of our work together? ‘Tis true. So we begin with a FREE 15 minute call for you to tell us your goals and questions and for us to share with you if and how we can best support you. We can then decide if we’re a good fit for one another and we’ll go from there. You’ll get off the phone with us with some next steps (even if you don’t join our village at that time).
